When we arrived at the dock in Capurganá, Marko was there to meet us, despite us being 2hrs later than expected. He had hired a “taxi” to transport us and our bags.
The house has a garden filled with with fruit trees – starfruit, papaya, mango. There are also pineapples, lemongrass, and tomatoes.
There were a lot of birds as well. Roger was excited to spot a Black-chested Jay, a Red Lored Parrot and a Lineated Woodpecker while we were there.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the house itself. But they have a website now where you can get more info.
The kids were very excited about sleeping with the mosquito netting around their beds. Although we did not really need them since there were screens on the window.
The best part was the proximity to the beach. It was just a 3 minute walk to this nearly deserted piece of paradise. Depending on the tide, the beach was rough and grainy with big surf or soft and smooth with small waves.
Marko and Alicia gave us great advice about where to go hiking. They found a guide to take us to Sapzurro. And they cooked some wonderful meals for us including homemade pasta, pizza, soups, and fresh fish caught that day (by Marko). They easily accommodated the kids’ less adventurous taste buds. The only hardship we experienced was the drought. While we were in Capurganá, it had not rained for 4 months and the water in the well was at a very low level. It was a great opportunity for the kids to learn about water conservation methods. Showering was a completely different experience – get wet – turn off water – soap up – turn water on – rinse off – get out.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Cabaña Tucan.
